Norway: Migrants ‘using fake identity’
Norwegian authorities said on Wednesday that up to 27 000 migrants on their database are in the country or have spent time in the country using fake documents. Using computer-generated face recognition technology, the Norwegian ID Centre found 106 identities which had been used by different individuals. This could also include people spending time in Norway under various identities, it said.
“Taking into account the entire database, this could mean that up to 27 000 of those who have been or are currently in Norway were registered under false identities,” project leader Froy Lovasdalleader told broadcaster NRK.
The pilot project analysed 16 000 of the nearly 3 million images saved by the Foreign Ministry.
“One person can be a criminal under one identity, receiving a student loan under another, and getting social benefits under a third,” she said.
