Fun fact: Valentin is the first Bulgarian in 10 years to make it to the Olympia stage. Another fun fact: Valentin will be the youngest pro on the classic physique Olympia stage. We don't all start on a level playing field. Some people have a head start with knowledge, resources and direction. Some people do not. Valentin Petrov is from Bulgaria. He grew up playing many sports but found his natural ability in bodybuilding very fast. With a family history with alcoholism, Valentin decided to break the pattern, make a 180 degree change and fully commit to competitive bodybuilding as a way to let out the frustration and anger. "I put 200% effort in bodybuilding since the beginning." Pursuing bodybuilding was near impossible in Bulgaria. one of the most instrumental influences however was from his grandmother. She was a able to curb his mother's alcoholism when she was around, support Valentin's early bodybuilding journey and encourage Valentin to continually build his physique with aesthetics and symmetry in mind. "My grandmother said I need to build a little more here and there. She wanted me to have symmetry and not just be muscle on top of muscle." Given the limited resources in Bulgaria, Valentin moved to Austria and UK navigating the devastating loss of his grandmother and grandfather to cancer, splitting up with his girlfriend and dealing with shutdowns and loss of work. Needless to say, Valentin believed in himself and his ability to overcome any and everything. He won his pro card at the Arnold Amateur UK and flash forward his super intense rookie season he is now fulfilling a promise he made to his grandmother to make it to the Olympia stage.

"Ive played around with lifting heavier BUT with looser form and never got development from it." Ashkan Aghili explains his "trial and error" approach to trying to grow his biceps and triceps from force f..king heavier weight... getting no where... then backing off the weight and dissecting his exercise and form and finally getting some traction in the form of growth. Strict form isn't for everyone BUT Ashkan gave a great explanation on all of these exercises so they are worth a shot if you're needing to mix it up with your own "arm day" routine.

Injuries in sports can delay or derail a career. Injuries in bodybuilding specifically can certainly have a massive impact physically and mentally as some of the criteria, when it comes to the stage, is symmetry and balance. Ed Brown suffered a couple of injuries but managed to adapt his training and continue to make progress to earn his pro card and then make even more progress and made his pro debut 8lbs of lean tissue heavier.

Here Ed is joined by his daughter and Catherine at destination after a guest posing appearance. He takes us through an adapted chest and biceps workout. These are some of the lifts and techniques Ed has learned to continue to make progress.

Big Joe Mackey is in his offseason and talks us through how he structures his chest training routine. "I always have at least one exercise where I try to go as heavy as possible. That sets the tone for the rest of the training session." Joe uses a variety of exercises and rep schemes to totally "fill the chest with blood" which is his goal with every workout. Alex talks about training with "Uncle Joe" to get bigger and stronger in route to a body weight goal of 200lbs and his first competition coming up next year. Stay tuned for the next time we link up with Joe showing his progress with his programming with Josh Bryant on the way to a 1000lb deadlift.
