Ghita rankaisi taas.

Ensi vuoden raskaan sarjan turnauksen voittaakin sitten joku muu. Semmy Schilt nimittäin lopettaa sydänongelmien takia. Menestykseensä ja urheilulliseen käytökseensä nähden Schilt on kyllä varmaan epäsuosituin ottelija kautta aikojen.

Sem Schilt Retires Due to Heart Condition | LiverKick.com

Over the last few months there have been various reports that four-time K-1 World Grand Prix Champion, 2012 Glory Grand Slam and Glory Heavyweight Champion Semmy Schilt will no longer be fighting. The rumors were first centered around his participation in future tournaments, as after his victory on New Year's Eve in 2012 he stated that he would not participate in future tournaments, although it was quickly brushed off. Since then there has been talk about him fighting Gokhan Saki with the Heavyweight title on the line, but there has also been talk of Schilt no longer fighting at all.

Since last night LiverKick has received numerous reports from reliable sources that Semmy Schilt is retired, effective immediately. The decision was apparently not an easy one for the Hightower, who was instructed to retire from his medical team due to a heart condition that was discovered. This marks the retirement of what may be the greatest Heavyweight Kickboxer of all time, with five big tournament victories under his belt and numerous world championships. Schilt was also a pioneer in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts, making his debut in Pancrase in 1996, fighting in both the UFC and PRIDE over the course of his career.

GLORY Lands Spike TV Deal, Starts Airing Live In October | LiverKick.com

It seems like we've been waiting a long time for GLORY to land that big television deal in the United States and today it was finally announced. After many months of speculation, GLORY announced today that their deal with Spike TV is now done and that the promotion will start airing on the channel with live broadcasts in October.

As of right now there aren't many other details about the deal, but it was noted that live, two hour broadcasts of GLORY events from around the world and of course in the United States would be aired on select Saturdays in primetime.

This deal was a long time in the making, with hints dating all the way back to the beginning of this year. Ultimately, this is pretty huge for the sport of kickboxing, as its landed on a network that already airs and has a history of promoting and marketing combat sports, in the form of MMA. The news also comes in a period where the future was looking a bit murky, and thus has given things a whole new sense of direction.

Tyrone Spong vs. Gokhan Saki Possibly Headlining GLORY's Spike TV Debut | LiverKick.com

GLORY is planning something big for their Spike TV debut. Originally the bout which was set for the fall was Semmy Schilt vs. Gokhan Saki, with Saki challenging for Schilt's Heavyweight Championship, but as we now know, Schilt showing up is a long shot at best. Glory have been pushing for Schilt to continue fighting, but with Bas Rutten's announcement on Monday it seems like everyone is admitting that Semmy Schilt is probably not going to continue fighting.

The rumored headlining bout for the GLORY Spike TV debut is none other than Gokhan Saki against Tyrone Spong, which makes a lot of sense as both men are more popular among American audiences and are the top fighters in Glory's rankings (of course Daniel Ghita sits in between them, but it happens). Tyrone Spong was the headliner for GLORY's American debut in New York City, winning the Light Heavyweight Slam tournament.

The two met in 2009 in K-1, with Gokhan Saki defeating Spong via TKO in an Extension Round.

NOW we are talkin...

Carnage on tehnyt sopimuksen GLORYyn.
Nathan "Carnage" Corbett has been one of the most sought after fighters by fans to make the jump over to kickboxing and fight big names, and it looks like it's finally going to happen. Today it was announced by Mark "The Hammer" Castagnini on the Hammer Time Fight Show that Corbett had signed a two fight deal with GLORY.

Demand for Corbett in GLORY had been high prior to the signing, with rumors going back of the promotion pursuing the Australian fighter for quite some time now. Corbett is of course the best heavier weight Muay Thai fighter in the world, and one of the main reasons why he's held in such high regard is his fight with Tyrone Spong in 2009, where Corbett knocked Spong out but ended up with a no contest to show for it. He's mainly stuck to fighting in Muay Thai with a kickboxing bout here and there.

Corbett fights at 95kg, the weight where Tyrone Spong just won the eight man light heavyweight tournament. It seems like they're destined to fight again, now that they're in the same promotion. According to Castagnini, Corbett will debut with GLORY in October in Chicago.

Corbett's last fight came in April, where he knocked out Kamil Sokolowski in the first round. In 2012, he defeated fellow GLORY fighters Steve McKinnon (for the second time) and Stephane Susperregui.

Four-man tournament promises "explosive action" at GLORY 10.

The GLORY World Series touches down in Los Angeles, California on Saturday, September 28 with GLORY 10 at the Citizen’s Bank Arena on Center Parkway.

Central to the event is a four-man tournament which will see a quartet of the world’s best middleweights whittled down to one who will stand supreme and claim the tournament belt and grand prize of $150,000.

Artem Levin of Russia is the tournament favorite and top seed. He is ranked number one in the world and has an outstanding record of 45-3 with 35 wins by KO. Creative and highly unorthodox, Levin likes to play games with his opponents and sap their confidence.

But he also hits very, very hard - as former Its Showtime champion Sahak Parparyan can attest. The two met at GLORY 7, their respective debuts for the organization, and the fight was nowhere near as close as people predicted. Levin showboated on his way to victory and broke Parparyan’s jaw in the process.

Because he is still recovering from the injury, Parparyan cannot take part in this tournament. His place has been taken by American standout Joe ‘Stich ’Em Up’ Schilling recently signed with GLORY and this will be his debut for the organization. He enters the official rankings at number five and faces world number two Stephen Wakeling in the semi-final stage.

Schilling is a former interim WBC Muay Thai champion and actually held the 79kg belt twice, having lost and then recovered it in successive fights. He held the interim title while Levin held the full title but a fight between the two never materialized. Schilling says he wants to test himself against Levin and Wakeling and this tournament is the perfect opportunity to do so.

Wakeling has held several world titles and numerous national and international ones. He is one of the most accomplished fighters ever to emerge from the highly-respected UK scene and has a close rivalry with Levin. They fought in England in July 2012 and it ended in a controversial draw, with both fighters claiming they won.

GLORY 5 saw Wakeling make his debut for the organization in fine fashion. He showed just why he is so highly regarded via a merciless destruction of Eddie ‘Showtime’ Walker, stopping the US middleweight with leg kicks.

The possibility of a rematch with Levin is enticing but there is also a lot of anticipation around Wakeling’s fight with Schilling. Fans have wanted it for years and GLORY has finally made it happen; it will be an intense affair for as long as it lasts.

The final part of the line-up is Jason Wilnis of Amsterdam. He is by far the tournament underdog - especially as he faces Levin in the first round - but comes from a good team and has plenty of knockout power.

And unlike Levin, who comes from the world of Muay Thai where fights are often slower-paced and more tactical, Wilnis is born and bred to the kickboxing game. He is well used to fighting the high-pressure pace that GLORY fights demand. Wilnis has plenty of time to prepare for his unusual opponent and is confident of causing an upset in September.

GLORY 10 marks the debut of the organization’s four-man tournament model, which matchmaker and talent-relations executive Cor Hemmers thinks is a valuable addition to the existing stable of tournament structures.

“Where the eight- and sixteen-man tournaments were conceived as tests of a fighter’s spirit and endurance, the four-man tournaments are designed to produce explosive fights and constant action,” he explains.

“The fighters don’t have to concern themselves as much with damage avoidance and conserving energy and can give 100 per cent in each round. The GLORY 10 tournament will produce some really explosive action.”

Nyt huhtaan myös Buakawin siirtymisestä Gloryn leipiin. Se olisi heille tervetullut vahvistus, koska 70-kiloiset on ollut oikeastaan ainoa painoluokka, jossa K-1 pystyy haastamaan Gloryn rosterin tasoa.

More Buakaw, Including GLORY Rumors | LiverKick.com

Oh Buakaw. If you've been following his non-progress for the last few years you know how much of a struggle just about anything that he does can be. In many ways, Buakaw has broken the mold of a traditional Thai Fighter; he went and fought Europeans in K-1 MAX and did very well, he came back an international conqueror, left his camp, had a weird relationship with a promoter and a few sponsors before getting on the outs with them and then hooked up with MAX Muay Thai.

His court proceedings continue one, but it is important to note that Buakaw's contract with Thai Fight has ended, according to his Facebook page.

Outcome of today's proceedings in the Civil Court at Ratchadapisek - there will be another session to hear the decision on whether this lawsuit will be handled by the Civil Court or the Central Intellectual Property & International Trade Court. Buakaw also announced through his lawyer that he has officially terminated his contract with Thai Fight...

That does indeed mean that he is free to fight for MAX Muay Thai, as opposed to just doing exhibitions. The rumor that has been shooting around over the past few days revolves around a possible agreement between MAX and GLORY which would focus on putting Buakaw in the big fights that we want to see him in, including a possible Petrosyan fight in either Asia or Italy, and then Buakaw involved in the next 70kg GLORY tournament, which is what fans have been begging for now for a while.

Uusia julkaisuja Glory 10:een.

GLORY 10 Adds Kiria vs. Groenhart, Watson vs. Kraus, Guidon vs. Wilnis | LiverKick.com

GLORY 10 takes place on September 28 in Los Angeles, USA and already features a four man 85kg tournament with Steve Wakeling, Artem Levin, Joe Schilling and Jason Wilnis. Three more fights have been added to the card.

Of the three fights added, two are in the 70kg division, and they both involve highly ranked fighters in the promotion. Murthel Groenhart will take on Davit Kiria, and Jordan Watson will fight Albert Kraus. These two 70kg fights join the already announced Robin van Roosmalen vs. Shemsi Beqiri fight on the card.

As well, a heavyweight fight between Brice Guidon and the brother of tournament participant Jason Wilnis, Jahfarr Wilnis, was added to the card. It joins the other previously scheduled heavyweight bout between Jerome Le Banner and Sergei Kharitonov.

Noista Groenhart vs. Kiria on mielenkiintoinen matsi.
