It follows the Friday fight between Tim Sylvia and Andrei Arlovski which ended in a no-contest because Arlovski soccer-kicked Sylvia and the American heavyweight then declared himself unable to continue due to damaged eyesight.
The soccer-kick would have been perfectly legal had the referee called out “open attack” when Sylvia was downed. UK organisation used to use a similar rule where the referee would call out “open guard” after a fighter had been downed, if he deemed the fighter was still capable of defending himself.
But between Zoro Moriera’s soccer-kick KO of Roger Huerta at the last ONE FC event and this no-contest between Arlovski and Sylvia, ONE FC officials - including former PRIDE FC matchmaker Matt Hume - have deemed the ‘open attack’ rule to be unwieldy. It has now been removed - fighters can attack a downed opponent at any time with anything they wish.
The new rule brings ONE FC’s attacks to a downed opponent in line with those used by the PRIDE FC organisation and fan reaction has been extremely positive. With ONE FC also allowing every form of elbow attack - including ‘12-6’ - the rules offer fighters probably the most complete set of attacking options of any high-profile organisation.
The next ONE FC show takes place October 6 and features Shinya Aoki among others.

hyi helvetti.
näyttääkö hyvältä?
kun vaikka nuo kolme lopetusta katsoo (Arlovski, Baroni, ja Moreira) niin olen täysin Unified Rules kannalla.
