Jepajee, sairaan hyviä uutisia Ruotsin kovimman bändin ystäville. Opeth on lopettanut 16 kuukautta kestäneen maailmankiertueen ja uutta levyä saamme odotella ensi keväälla.

"Mikael Åkerfeldt has started writing for what is supposed to be the next Opeth album. Hopefully to be recorded sometime in the early Spring of 2005."

Mielenkiintoinen uutinen Opethin sivuilta:

- Peaceville records have slight, though yet unconfirmed plans to release a 5.1 surround sound mix re-release of Opeth's 4th album, "Still life". More information as we have it.

Tekisi poikaa saada tuommoinen lätty. Toivoisin kovasti, että orkesterit panostaisivat dvd-audio levyihin ja julkaisuja tulisi monikanavaisina.

Hienoa  . Tässä ollaan jo odoteltukin uutta materiaalia. Toivottavasti äijät vääntää kovempaa kamaa tällä kertaa.

Latest news:

Mikael Åkerfeldt has been confirmed as the vocalist for the first and last Bloodbath gig. This will take place at Germany's famous Wacken open air festival on the 4th of August. The band will perform songs from all three albums including the non-Åkerfeldt death-bomb "Nightmares made flesh" that featured Peter Tägtgren on vocals. The all star line-up will consist of: Anders Nyström (Katatonia), Jonas Renkse (Katatonia), Dan Swanö (legendary multi musician), Martin Axenrot (Nifelheim, Witchery etc) and Mikael Åkerfeldt. Be there or....well, of course you'll be there!!

Opeth will be entering Fashination street studios on March 15 to record their 8th yet untitled opus. The band are currently in rehearsal mode, which is a rare occasion having recorded the last 4 records without rehearsing. The recording will be overseen by the uprising recording mogul Jens Bogren. As of today no names for production duties have surfaced and it looks like the next record will be a band produced effort. Nothing has been decided regarding who's taking care of the mix either so we'll have to keep you wondering.

Opeth and their management have spent the last month meeting the 5 top label candidates for the next Opeth recording contract. The names are still secret but a decision will be made very soon and obviously announced here earlier than anywhere else.

Several Summer festival appearances have been confirmed and will be posted here soon. A Summer tour of the US has also been confirmed and will be posted here soon as well. The matters are still very "hush, hush" so we can't say anything more at this point. What can be said is that the band will make a few low-profile apperances prior to the next release and several full blown headline tours all over the world after the release. Take your rest now!

Per Wiberg has now officially joined Opeth as a permanent member of the band. As most of you know he's been touring with Opeth since their "Damnation" record. Spiritual beggars fans should not despair as he will continue playing and recording with them.

The band is currently hard at work in Fascination street studios. 9 titles have been recorded and at this moment Hammond organs and Mellotrons are being put down to tape. The recording is being supervised and engineered by Jens Bogren and produced by the band. Some song titles have been confirmed and will be posted here soon.

Several North American journalists will visit the studio in mid May for interviews and exclusive listening sessions.

We will soon confirm a handful of Scandinavian and European dates. The band will do a smaller trek round the key cities in Europe in September. This will be the first tour in support of the new album which is supposed to be released in late August/early September. More tour dates to come....

Have you forgotten...sorry for taking so much time...but:
We will soon confirm the winner of the drawing contest too. There have been hundreds of pictures sent in and we thank you for these. The winner will get the task of drawing the band picture for the next Opeth Cd.

Record label??? Opeth have decided which label to sign to and the contracts are being done as you read. We will announce it here shortly!

We can now officially announce that Opeth has signed a worldwide contract with Roadrunner records. The rumours were true! The new album is set to be released sometime in the late August or early September of 2005.

Opeth has cancelled their Vienna/Austria Aerodromme festival appearance (May 27) due to the recording taking longer time than expected. We are very sorry for the fans who expected to see Opeth there, but we hope to return to Austria as soon as humanly possible!

The recording process is going well. One song is mixed and done, another one in the process of being mixed. Solos are being recorded as well as death screams. Some songtitles? "Ghost of perdition", "The baying of the hounds", "Isolation years" and "Harlequin forest" The record plan to be done by June 1.

Opeth are most likely to appear at Bergen/Norway´s Hole in the sky festival (August 24-27) as well as the semi legendary Summerbreeze (August 18-20) fest in Germany. We will confirm this as soon as it´s....confirmed!

OPETH'S MIKAEL AKERFELDT - TERRORIZER EXCLUSIVE ON NEW ALBUM

Opeth's Mikael Akerfeldt recently confirmed that the band have inked a deal with Roadrunner Records. Terrorizer spoke to the frontman about their highly-anticipated forthcoming album 'Ghost Reveries'.

Still working on the album?
Mikael: "We still have the cover to do and the booklet and photos and all sorts of things."

But the album's almost completed?
Mikael: "You could probably say so. We've done the mixes for five heavy, long tracks, but we still have the mixes for three or four extra songs left to do. Everything's recorded. It's just that Katatonia went into the studio directly after us, so we have to wait like a week or something to do the mixes for those last songs."

Is there perhaps a certain organic quality which has been worked into the songs because of you having rehearsed for this album?
Mikael: "Yeah. It'd like to hope so, at least. I worked more with each song and each passage, so I feel the songs 100 per cent. They're much more well-structured this time around."

There was a certain flow that you seemed to lose on some of the songs on 'Deliverance'. 'Damnation' seemed to breathe properly, where 'Deliverance' generally didn't.
Mikael: "I have to agree, because I think at the time we were recording I was so stressed that it was going to be an album at all; and since we were doing two albums, I think my heart was in the project of doing 'Damnation', because that was the odd thing. While I'm happy with 'Deliverance' overall, I think 'Damnation' is one of our best albums ever. 'Deliverance' is not our strongest album, but I think the song 'Deliverance' is one of our best songs. So I'm not slagging the album off, it's just the memory of the whole recording is so bad, and I know how I was functioning when I was doing those songs. I was under a lot of pressure and I just wanted it to be done. This time around I paid much more attention to the small details and put much more energy into making the songs like, full-on all the time, if you know what I mean. The new album never, ever gets boring. People should never think that Opeth are boring - and we were kind of treading that line on 'Deliverance', I guess."

So are the lyrical themes of this new record moving into new and different territory too?
Mikael: "The lyrics are almost a regression, I think. I've gone back to the early influences of the band. I wanted to write like an occult kind of concept story. I didn't want to write a stupid Satanic lyric and it's not a Satanic album or anything, but I started with this idea of a concept, and that was like a red thread, if you know what I mean, throughout the story: that there is some occult undertone in it. The lyrics are almost like a clich for death metal, but written how I write, so it's not just stupid. It's some good stories, I think. It's much more sinister than before: I haven't written lyrics like this in fifteen years. I hope they're better now than they were fifteen years ago!"

Tänään kävin Tiketistä lipun hakemassa.
Oli kuulemma mennyt tosi paljon lippuja, kannattaa hakea ajoissa lippu jos haluaa keikalle

Opeth and Jens Bogren have now finished the recording and mixing of the latest opus "Ghost reveries". The album will be mastered today (June 16th) at the Cutting room facilities in Stockholm. Total running time will be around 65 minutes. Full tracklisting is:

The baying of the hounds
Beneath the mire
Atonement
Reverie/Harlequin forest
Hours of wealth
The grand conjuration
Isolation years

A release date has yet to be confirmed, but it's planned for late August/early September worldwide through Roadrunner records.

Anthony Sorrento from New Jersey/USA have been picked as the winner in the drawing contest. Why? Check this out! He is currently working on the drawing that will end up in the booklet of "Ghost reveries". Congratulations! We'd also like to thank all of you who sent your work to us...you rule! We will post some of our favourite pictures here at the official site very soon.

Opeth have confirmed that they will appear at the Metal Hammer festival/Spodek arena in Katowice/Poland on August 31. Oddly enough supporting Korn. Other bands on the bill includes Lacuna coil and Fear factory. Been way too long so make sure to get your asses over there!
