2/2 6th flaw – was this a healthy high carb diet from whole foods? Or was this from processed foods?
A whole food higher carb diet would bring alkalinity which lower PRAL diets (i.e. whole food carb diets) have been shown to improve performance over higher PRAL diets.
7th flaw – gold standard is 60-120 g (you only used 50 grams!) gold standard CHO fueling requirements (60–120 g CHO/h) (27)
8th flaw – YOU'RE STILL HAVING TO GIVE 10.1 grams of GLUCOSE!
9th flaw – 6 patients out of the 10 were NOT in nutritional ketosis at day 35 and 4-5 were not in ketosis on day 42 (and I’m only seeing 9 data points in Figure 2, did someone drop out and not perform the day 42 protocol?) and thus did they drive most of the benefit out of the 10 individuals?
You would need to remove those 6 patients on day 35 and those 3-4 patients on day 42 and run the analysis again only in those in ketosis based on fasting blood ketones.
10th flaw “This suggests that ingesting CHO at much higher rates may not produce additional benefits considering the physiological limits of the small glucose pool that can saturate quickly (28, 29). However, such an assumption requires additional testing to determine if even greater levels of CHO
would translate to greater performance outcomes.”
YOUR OWN PAPER STATES FURTHER TESTING IS NEEDED AGAINST HIGHER AMOUNTS OF CARBS.
You can’t just try and explain away every meta-analysis that has shown carbs are more beneficial vs keto diets due to what YOU deem as flaws but then ignore all the flaws of your studies.''
