"King of Pain
This new DVD is King Kamali’s newest project. Filmed during the later part of 2005, this film shows Kamali in his off season form.
Lets get the negatives of this DVD over with first.
The Delt workout is too short……………………
Ok now onto the positives.
Many training dvd’s fall short in one or more categories. Some have poor production qualities, while others are simply not intense enough. Other dvd’s are sooo long that the viewer sometimes gets bored watching their favorite stars changing plates.
Lets face it, there is only one “Blood and Guts”, and some have come close, and others are more entertaining. The form of “Blood and Guts” was a simple format that was a fly on the wall view of Dorian’s training. King’s new dvd tries to combine this winning formula with other formulas that are successful from other dvd’s, and in doing so came of with a very unique dvd in its own right!
First off, the video quality from picture to sound to editing is top notch. Clear, shots, and some interesting background coloring at times makes for a visual treat. The music is awesome, which makes the dvd look much like a MTV video. Lots of club and hip hop, which I believe was specifically done for the DVD. This adds a nice touch that separates this production from the countless others on the market.
King right from the get go describes what the viewer will see. Hard core training, heavy weights, full off-season mode. Some training highlights are, 675 lbs smith machine squats (his legs are a little smooth but are huge none the less), for 8 reps! One arm t-bar rows with 7-45 lbs plates (that’s over 315 lbs!), 150 lbs dumbbell bench presses, 405 lbs smith machine presses. Theres more but why spoil the entire dvd.
We do see some lifestyle stuff, like a little deep tissue massage, a visit to the chiropractor, and the Chinese restaurant for rice and chicken. One other thing you notice is that King likes the good life. From the H2 he drives, to the air jorden clothing he wears, to the more mainstream gym he trains at. Its all about class with the King. Others like Dorian and Ronnie may like to train in dungeons but King likes “style” and has plenty of it.
One of my favorite scenes is the puke scene during legs, while they play Louie Armstrong’s “wonderful world” in the back ground. This reminded me of the good old days when I was teen banging the weights!!
Over all at 50 minutes in length the dvd does run a tad short. But it is very entertaining and is very much different then his first video, (which is very good and highly recommended). King’s training intensity is very evident, and his size is enormous!! I’ve never met King myself and he puts his height at 5’10”. If he’s 5’10” he must be 6” wide!!! King should be nick named “the PitBull” for several reasons, the way he attacks the weight, the way he stalks the gym, and the ability to turn off the intensity at will, and he is built like one too.
All in all I recommend this dvd for anyone, not just fans of the King, Why? For the intensity, motivation, and entertainment value."
