"Weig-ins were pretty interesting with some very surprising weights from the athletes. I'll try to list the weights I can remember:
*King Kamali - 254
*Craig Titus - 238
*Melvin Anthony - 233
*Gustavo Badell - 251
*Heiko Hallbach - 275
*Eduard VanAmsterdam - 305 -heaviest in the show!
*Lee Priest - 203
*Mark Dugdale - 210
*David Henry - 190 ish - can't remember the exact weight
These are what I remember of the weights off the top of my head, but here's what I can see:
Out of all the people during the press conference that actually stripped down and posed, David Henry was definitely in the best shape at that point in time. His back is definitely bigger with great detail and has really nice fullness and roundness to his muscle. If he can dry out just a tiny bit for tomorrow, he will be spot on.
Gustavo Badell was in better shape than I thought he would be in, especially after viewing the last set of photos posted. I think he is probably 25% away from where he was at the Olympia, so I don't think he will repeat that, but if he dries out well, overnight, he should look pretty good come pre-judging - I think he could come around 10-15% off from the Olympia, which would still be pretty impressive.
Troy Alves is in good shape - nice and full - I only saw his upper body, but his conditioning is pretty good - probably another 5-10% to go tonight, then he'll be ready.
As far as sheer size and thickness, Heiko is definitely the biggest guy in the show - looks absolutely freaky - stripped down showing his legs - they are freaky big and separated, but still need to be a little harder - but he is definitely in striking distance to do some damage tomorrow.
Mike Morris also showed his legs and they are pretty hard from top to bottom, as usual, but it was pretty hard to see the rest of him in clothing - I would guess however, that he is in pretty good shape.
At the end of the press conference, Frank Roberson and Melvin Anthony had a little pop locking contest and Melvin seemed to school him in this respect, but in all honesty, it was good fun and you really have to like Roberson's energy - he brings a lot of this to the stage - and although it is done with confidence - it is done in a tasteful and positive - not bragging - kind of way - we need much more of this in the sport.
That was pretty much the extent of the weigh-ins - no one else really stripped down much - interesting to see if this was to make us wonder if they were in shape, or if things didn't go as well as they had hoped - but definitely you could tell many of the guys were in good shape - but Craig mentioned at the press conference - that "many of us are still a work in progress and this is why we aren't showing anything now." I completely understand that and am looking forward to seeing the finished physiques tomorrow on stage.
After the press conference, I went to several rooms - of course I checked on my guys first - Melvin is right where he needs to be - nice and full with fantastic roundness to his muscle and he is starting to dry out very nicely - just a little more to go and he'll be right on the money tomorrow morning - I'm very pleased with how he is turning out.
King is also right where he needs to be and pretty much has the conditioning look of 2001 - much graininess to the legs - especially through the side and hamstring and his lower back is very hard and striated with a deep x-mas tree - probably another 5% to go and he'll definitely repeat his '01 conditioning but close to 10 pounds heavier.
Then, I went to Lee Priest's room with Hany Rambod to look at him. He is spot on! Definitely the best Lee Priest I have ever seen! His front thighs are very deeply separated, but yet he is still nice and full with insane looking biceps - the arms are just absolutely amazing - just doing a pumping action with his bicep - you can see every fiber moving under the skin - freaky looking! His glutes are actually hard and even from the side they have "ridges" in them. If he can maintain his fullness through the pre-judging, he will be right in the mix of things.
I'll try to keep you guys updated and I'm going to have Kim post the callouts tomorrow as they are being made.
All the weigh-in pics are up - check out the link for the ironman pics - weigh-in pics, candid shots and shots from King and Melvin's room. I also have pics of Lee that I haven't posted yet, but will get them on as soon as I can."
