Fedja on 240+ paunassa.
Fedor Emelianenko has never been an overly large heavyweight fighter, and as he's hit a slide over his last few fights a lot of fans and critics have called for him to attempt a move down to light heavyweight. In his last bout, against Dan Henderson in Strikeforce, he came about as close as he has to that limit at 223 lbs. However, it appears he's gone a different route for his bout this Sunday with Jeff Monson in Russia.
In an interview with LowKick.com, Emelianenko revealed that he's expecting to be around 110 kg. come fight time, or 242 lbs.
"I don't know if intentionally or not, it rather happened naturally," Emelianenko said of the weight gain. "I did a little bit of barbell workout over here, which I enjoy a lot. So I just went up in muscle mass. I always quickly gain muscle, it's never been a problem for me."
He also touched on fighting for the third time in 2011, a fighting schedule he just hasn't had over the last several years. In fact, this will be the first time since 2005 that he'll have had more than two fights in a year.
"I prefer a tight fighting schedule," Fedor said. "I'm a fighter, and as a fighter I think it's very important to be active, to stay in shape. But unfortunately, there were certain difficulties with the promotions I used to fight for."
