âKhabib is a âGâ but Khabib ainât never fought nobody like Ben,â Woodley said,
per MMYNYTTâs Damon Martin. âHe never fought anybody like Ben, he ainât never fought nobody like Michael Chandler. Those guys would wreck him on life. Chandlerâs intensity is more, his striking is better. Ben doesnât have the same intensity but his style is not one of intensity.
âHis style is one of scrambling, one of static strength, one of consistency, pressure, and ground and pound is ridiculous, jiu-jitsu is ridiculous, wrestling is ridiculous. His ability to get in close and put himself into positions where heâs going to be successful is bar none some of the best Iâve ever seen.â
Woodley, who trains with Askren under renowned coach Duke Roufus in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, also claimed that former two-division champ Georges St-Pierre âwould never stand a chanceâ against his teammate.
âGSP would never stand a chance against Ben,â Woodley said. âBen thrives against guysâ offensive onslaughts and GSPâs whole thing was always timing. If you ever see some video a long time ago, Ben Askren grappling against Jake Shields and Iâm going to tell you this one thing â the highlights of the video were not on that video. Ben is just on a different level.â
Woodley, the reigning UFC welterweight kingpin, is excited to see Askren finally prove his worth on MMAâs biggest stage.
âIâm excited to see,â Woodley continued. âCause Iâve always spoken very highly of Ben not just because heâs a buddy of mine but also a teammate but I also spoke highly of him because of honesty and actuality. He deserves the credit that Iâve given him. Not that Iâve given him but because of the credit heâs earned because of his credentials.â
