:lol2:

There was a recent (May 24) live stream interview on Sportbox.ru with Fedor. It was over an hour long. I'm not going to translate the whole thing from memory, so this is just a rough summary.
Fedor is glad that Lebedev won but said that there is a bad taste or feeling left after the fight, simply because of how it was promoted. It was promoted as a "Russia vs USA" thing or "Battle of Nations". He said it might have made sense 10 years ago but now it's inappropriate. And that it's basically wrong to celebrate too much for beating an old legend, who's obviously lost his speed. He thinks it's the end of the career for Jones.
He also said that while Lebedev wasn't wrong in the last strike against Jones, he probably should not have made it. The host said that he talked to the referee and the ref said he thought that Jones might have been faking a KO, so he didn't stop it sooner. Fedor said that's just an excuse and it's hard to fake a KO with your head down. He said that the ref is simply making excuses and should have stopped the fight sooner.
By the way, even one of the Russian commentators during the fight said that he felt bad for Jones and that it shouldn't have had a "Battle of Nations" context. Many people in the audience also had a look of concern for Jones when he was laying down.
I agree. Jones is a legend and no one should gloat over his loss to Lebedev, even if Denis earned the win. It's just not classy to do so.
Fedor was also asked about his losses and how he's dealing with them, if he regrets them, If he learned anything from them etc. He said that he's doing fine. He only regrets making the same mistakes in his losses that he was always explaining to the younger guys and students not to make, such as the way he got caught in the triangle or letting Silva be on top of him. He said he never used to let his opponents on top but this time didn't try to prevent it as much as he used to. As for feeling bad and getting over it, he said that only those who are fixated on themselves can't deal with losing.
As for retiring, he said he at first thought that two mistakes in a row is something to think about but later realized that he still feels great and that it's not yet the time to leave.
Fedor was also asked about changing anything in his training or his training partners or learning BJJ from BJJ specialists. He said he's not going to change anything, that he is still learning some tricks from SAMBO and that it's better rounded for MMA. He did say that while BJJ is good and while both have their nuances, SAMBO is more versatile and too has various submissions and chokes. Plus, it has many effective throws and striking, which the BJJ fighters often lack. He also said that his training partners are good and that many either already have or can imitate Henderson's style, if necessary.
He was also asked about old MMA fights, such as those that started in the early UFC, plus the lack of weight classes. He said that it wasn't a sport back then, that it was more like dogs in a cage at each others' throats, that it was often negative and unpleasant for him to watch when they just tried to give each other a bloody nose, that it's good to have weight classes now, that the fighters then weren't well rounded, unlike today.
Someone said that it was actually more interesting to see different MA styles then against each other instead of now where everyone knows more. Fedor said that's probably why it was more interesting but it shouldn't be that way, that the sport and the fighters should evolve and so they are naturally more well rounded today in MMA, and that they have to be. He said that something like Karate vs Judo should not be MMA but a separate thing.
Fedor also mentioned that it's saddening the way Russians are looked at in the west and it's always unpleasant to hear when the first thing that comes to westerners' minds is vodka and other old stereotypes, and that he's trying hard to change that preconception.
There was much more and maybe someone can translate the whole thing later but that's it for now.
Enjoy.
Fedor is the man!
