Nasum vocalist missing in Thailand

NASUM.com announces:

It's very hard for us to make this announcement, but since rumours are already out on the Internet we must make an official statement: Mieszko Talarczyk is missing in Thailand.

Mieszko and his girlfriend went to Thailand to spend the holidays. They left a few days before Christmas and were scheduled to return right after New Years Eve.

They were staying in a bungalow at Phi Phi Island and when the big wave came and swept the bungalow away the two were seperated. Mieszko's girlfriend is being reported hospitalized "badly injured" but she has been in contact with among others Mieszko's sister who has been posting an "I'm looking for..." at the Phuket Disaster Forum.

This is everything we know right now. Since we are all shocked by this surreal situation we strongly advice fans of Nasum to respect the anxiety we and the Talarczyk and Thorén families feel at this time, and NOT post questions by email or in the guestbook at nasum.com. We will post all sorts of news on the website, but again, please respect our wish in this uneasy time.

Älä muuta sano. Rotten soundin ohella meikän lempibändi. Ei tässä auta kun toivoa parasta ja pelätä pahinta. Aika totaalista tuhoa aallot oli tuolla alueella tehnyt ja kun tyttöystävällekin oli huonosti käynyt niin ei tässä fiilikset kovin korkeella ole. Vittuvittu. Ensin dimebag ja sitten...

Update #2: Still no sign of Mieszko

As of Monday January 10, we have nothing to report about Mieszko's whereabouts. We can report that his girlfriend has returned to Sweden and is at the moment getting all possible treatment for her physical and emotional wounds.

We would also alert all customers of Soundlab Studios to read the message to the right.

Again, thanks for the support in the guestbook during the last couple of weeks. We appreciate it a lot and seek comfort in your concern.

NASUM VOCALIST FOUND DEAD IN THAILAND

We received a confirmation that Mieszko Talarczyk (NASUM guitarist/vocalist) died in the tsunami disaster December 26, 2004. His body has been identified on Thursday, February 17th and will be transferred to Sweden shortly.

Rest in peace, Mieszko.

The future

I promised a text about Nasum’s future three months ago… Here it is. Nasum is no longer an active band. There will never be another studio recording or a live show. Nasum ended with the death of Mieszko. No one is sorrier about this than me. I remain the only founding member and Nasum has more or less been my life for the past 5-10 years. All the other members have always had other bands to play with; I’ve had nothing and have nothing today.

I think we all came to the same decision without really talking about it. Continuing without Mieszko seemed impossible. The thought of bringing a new member into the band to replace someone who died was terrible in so many levels. It felt unfair to the fans, to us and to that new guy who would have had a lot of pressure on his shoulders.

It wasn’t the way I wanted Nasum to end but we haven’t got much of a choice. I can express exactly what the situation of Nasum is in Swedish: Vi lägger av men vi lägger inte ned, which in English would translate to: We’re quitting but we’re not quitting, or rather: We’re stopping it but we’re not ending it, to get the meaning of it.

So Nasum is no more, but we’re still here. Our music is very much alive and we’ll continue to be here as long as you want us here. We have no issues with continuing to release more records and sell merchandise, and we hope you haven’t got any too.

Maybe there will be a time in the future when it feels OK to get together and do something new again. I would love to be an active member of Nasum again – I said it was my life, right? – and you never know what happens. But don’t count on it. I have a urge to grind and I got to grind in some way.

IMO parempi vain että lopettivat, vaikka olikin minun henk.koht top 5:ssä. Ei olisi kuitenkaan ollut enää sama bändi ilman Mieszkoa. Vaikka Anders suurimman osan shiftin biiseistä tekikin, niin Mieszkon lauluääni oli mielestäni yksi tyylilajin parhaista.

Onneksi komeilee kaikki viralliset studioalbumit hyllyssä. Ja tuleehan sieltä vielä koko nasumin uran pakettiin laittava Grind Finale.
