"I meant to get this thread started earlier in the week, but I've just been too busy up to this point. The delay's at least allowed me to gather a pretty good amount of content in the meantime, and I doubt anything I could've posted Mon-Wed would've even come close to competing with Isabelle's thread anyway. LOL Threads like those are obviously one reason we come here, but I hope this one can serve as the perfect example of the other.
This is probably the most intense and exciting week there is in a prep, and I hope this thread will successfully illustrate that. It's usually in this week that the prep is "taken to that other level." This week is unquestionably the one in which everything starts to fall into place, giving a glimpse of what the final week has the potential to produce. At this point, you're deploying the landing gear and beginning the decent for that perfect landing on the day of the show. The changes seen in this week are usually dramatic, but usually really only the sole result of supplemental manipulation. The training, cardio, and posing actually peak this week, which like I said before, makes it the most intense time you'll find in a precontest phase.
Anyway, Tuesday night Mike called from the Firehouse to ask me if I'd meet his friend Steve McLeod at Gold's later that night to get some pictures for the board. Steve just won the Jr. Nationals 2 weeks ago, so I said sure. What resulted was my getting the chance to have a little inpromptu posedown with him in the Gold's posing room, which Mike got shots of. I think it's a pretty interesting comparison, being as how:
1) We're both of similar bodyweight...on the Gold's scale that night, he'd just weighed 220, and I, 226 (both with clothes on). He's 5'10" or 11", and I'm 6'1".
2) I'm 2 weeks pre-contest and he's 2 weeks post-contest.
3) He just won the overall at the level I'd consider to be one above the level I'll be competing at come July 10th, and it's always good to know where you're at relative to where you wanna go.
4) Both our last names begin with "Mc-," and while I sported a Sean Jean cap to the shoot, he had the same design on his T-shirt. The similarities were so uncanny, I actually think we may be long lost brothers or something...maybe even my "brother from another mother," as Tony Freeman referred to Bob Burke in a prior thread.
All kidding aside, Steve still looked great. He had what I called "that Darryl Stafford Vascularity" all through his quads, hams and calves. Just SICK! He'd just eaten a big meal at the Firehouse, but he said he'd actually lost 6 pounds over the course of the day from 2 photoshoots he'd done prior to meeting me. I was pleased with how well I held my own standing next to him, but you guys can judge for yourselves.
Steve was a VERY nice, helpful, and humble guy towards me. He's definitely the sort of person I like to see win, capable of representing the sport with true style and grace."
