Machine Headin tuleva albumi on nimeltään The Blackening. Albumin pitäisi ilmestyä ensi vuoden alkupuolella. Robert Flynn tuottaa albumin ja Colin Richardson miksaa albumin. Alustavia biisejä tulevalla albumilla: The Blackening, Clenching The Fists Of Dissent, Aesthetics Of Hate, Halo, The Beautiful Mourning, Now I Lay Thee Down, Slanderous Love, Wolves ja A Farewell To Arms.

Rob Flynn: "And Dave McClain [MACHINE HEAD drummer]... is... done!!! The man is ON muthafuckin' FIRE!!!! He put down six out of eight songs Friday, including two of the 10-minute bad boys... and then the last two Saturday... DANG!!! Yeah, yeah, par for the course for Mr. McClain, but still!!! First couple of days were spent getting the ultimate drum tones, trying out a multitude of different kits, heads, etc... Dave was ready to strangle Mr. Producer here *cough* at several points during the second day, but he finally saw the light, and in the end we got the sickest drum tones EVER, he's really fuckin' stoked. Dave and I both feel strongly about having real drum tones on this record, and getting away from the overly triggered (and in a lot of cases completely triggered) drum sound that is so prevalent in metal today. Sure, you gotta have a little bit in there — a bit in the kick, blend some in with the snare, but man, real drums sound fucking awesome when you get 'em dialed in. Been listening to 'South Of Heaven' [SLAYER] a lot, and Jesus... even by today's standards the drum tones sound just incredible... that's what we're going for... timeless shit."

"Had a couple days of studio-technical difficulties after getting drum tones, but then the rocking commenced. At Dave's request, he wanted to try just him and I tracking stuff, which is how we demo everything anyways, and it worked great... he's killing it SO hard. Drum magazine editors take note... your new king is here, and his name is Dave McClain!!!"

Ens vuoden levy varmasti.
Levyn jälkeen 2 keikkaa taas Tavastialla ois jees.
Sounds of the Underground kiertueella oli lisänny Bay of Pigsin repertuaariin. Lisää vaan settilistaan TMTC:n kamaa.
 
Flynn: "This is the most ambitious thing we have ever attempted. We all challenged ourselves and each other to write a record that pushed the boundaries of complexity and technical structure."

"The nature of what is happening in the world led to a darker, bleaker album in every sense." Pointed and timely, the lyrics in songs such as "Clenching The Fists of Dissent", "A Farewell To Arms" and "Halo" touch upon politics, the war in Iraq and organized religion. The lyrics to the aforementioned songs spit anger and disdain at their topics in the true spirit of angst that fueled punk rock in the mid- '80s. "Aesthetics of Hate" captures the bands anger towards an article that bashed "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott right after his death and slammed the metal community as a whole for mourning it."

"Now I Lay Thee Down" has a "Romeo and Juliet"-esque love story slant to it, while "Slanderous" addresses the hate that still permeates throughout society and "Wolves" tackles the band's competitive, winner take all’ spirit."
 
Robert Flynn: "We really didn't want to play it safe on this record," he explained. "We kind of came back from the dead with 'Through the Ashes of Empires', and the safest thing we could've done would've been to just stay in [that] vein and try to keep that formula because it worked last time. Not that there was a formula really. We just started writing and the music that we were writing just started going in this far more complex, intricate and layered direction. It's not like we sat there and intentionally did it. It just kind of [happened]. Pretty soon we ended up having 10-minute-long songs. But the thing that's really cool about it is, we're not just jamming on three riffs for 10 minutes. This is molten riffage — just 20, 30 crushing riffs per song."

"The one thing that they did is that they'd have these long songs that constantly had a continuing theme throughout them," he said. "The songs always reverted back to this one melody or this one hook — and that kept it in the context of a song so that ultimately, it wasn't just riff soup for 10 minutes. It kind of had some things that took you on a journey and then brought you back to something familiar. And that's something that we really started to try and bring into the mix. We'd have these long songs, but then we'd go back to these choruses or these hooks, but in a different context. The more we did it, the more we got excited about it. For whatever reason, it's worked."
 
Flynn: "We got three mixes done at this point and as my friend Sir Sparks-A-Lot put it, 'Jesus H. Fucking Christ on a crutch!!!!!!!??????' ... 'SICK!!!!!!!!'"

Kuulin albumista ilmeisesti (!) promoversion eikä se oikein auennut parilla kuuntelukerralla. Odotin parempaa albumia. Täytyy kuunnella vielä joitakin kertoja ja katsotaan muuttuuko mielipiteeni sitten.

Kuulin kans ennakkoon levyä ja sanoisin että on taas bändi uudistunut. Eli mennään levy levyltä kauemmas ja kauemmas perinteisestä asennemetallista. Melodioiden ja soolojen käyttöä on lisätty rankalla kädellä. Vaikea levy sisäistää, mutta ei huono. Vaatii paljon kuuntelua. Kuitenkin helposti tunnistettavissa Machine Head:in levyksi. Se oma tyyli on jo aika murtamaton.
 
Olen ehtinyt kuunnella useamman kerran jo. Voi olla, että ne jotka eivät tykänneet Superchargerista ja Burning Readista, voivat tykätä tästä, mutta ei tämä vedä vertoja Through the Ashes of Empirorsille. Mun mielipide on, että he ovat yrittäneet tehdä jotain Throughtin tapaista, mutta ei siinä ole niin paljon karkkia, kuin vuonna 2003 oli. Luultavasti tämä tulokas tulee jakamaan mielipiteitä, taas kerran :)
 
Nyt on levy kuunneltu läpi sellaset 10 kertaa ja mielipide alkaa muodostoa: yhtyeen ehdottomasti kovin ja monipuolisin levy!! .. (ok, Burn My Eyes on silti SE levy) mutta tässä on nyt niin tiukkaa soitantaa ja hyviä biisejä että ei tälle voi antaa muutakun täydet kymmenen pistettä. Edellinen ennusti jo lupaavaa uutta alkua ja tämä uus levy ikäänkuin jatkaa siitä samaa noususuhdannetta. Vaatii kuitenkin kuuntelua että aukeaa kunnolla, ja sen jälkeen kuuntelu onkin yhtä juhlaa. Killswitch:it ja Lamb of God:it jää kyllä kauas taakse..

Machine Head on ja pysyy siis edelleen yhtenä lempparibändeistä. :rock:

:rock: Nyt ollaan asian ytimessä. Vaatii pikkusen enemmän kuuntelua mutta ei tämän paremmaksi levy enää muutu.

Ei riitä enää kyllä millään. Muutamat viikot tota on tullu sahailtua ja iselleni levy on tätänykyä päräyttävin kuuntelukokemus sitten sen päivän, kun teinipoikana työnsi uunituoreen Ride The Lightningin mutsin vanhoihin Hitacheihin. Aika paljon on juttuja tullut sen jälkeen kuultua, parempia ja huonompia, mutta tää on kyllä ihan omaa luokkaansa.

Sanoin aiemmin tässä ketjussa, että mielestäni kyseessä on yksi parhaista thrash -levyistä koskaan. Tarkennan sen verran, että The Blackening on paras levy koskaan, piste.

Koko levy on niin nerokasta, briljanttia temmolla ja tyyleillä kiusoittelevaa riffitykitystä, että hyvä kun ei jotain a Farewell to armsia kuunnellessa itkuun pillahda välillä. Näistä aineksista saisi lahjattomampi bändi aikaiseksi 5-täyspitkää albumia, ja siltikään ei menisi vielä vanhan toistoksi.

Heh, en tiedä uskaltaako tuota ihan vielä ääneen sanoa. Mutta hyyyyyyvin lähellä ollaan kyllä. Top 3:een tuo ainakin mahtuu jo hyvin, eikä tee edes tiukkaa.

:evil: Voisivat tulla taas Suomeen. Paras bändi myös livenä mitä olen nähnyt.
