The Greek H.I.M. fan club DarkSecret Club recently conducted an exclusive interview with H.I.M. frontman Ville Valo, to be published in an upcoming issue of an international music magazine. Ville spoke for more than 25 minutes about the grup's upcoming album, "Dark Light", and offered new information about its release, and the group's future plans. The following details were revealed during the itnerview:

* H.I.M. will release "Rip Out the Wings of a Butterfly" as the first international single off "Dark Light". It is expected in late August/early September.

* The band have already shot a video for "Rip Out the Wings of a Butterfly", and the clip is now in the process of being edited.

* The "Rip Out The Wings of a Butterfly" video was directed by Meiert Avis (U2, AVRIL LAVIGNE, JENNIFER LOPEZ, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN), originally from Ireland but currently living in L.A., and the final result will look like an old movie, similar in feel to U2's "With or Without You" (which was also directed by Meiert Avis).

* Ville Valo promised a unique and extended European tour ("…we will practically visit almost every country in Europe…" he said) early next year.

* Ville decribed the artwork for "Dark Light" as something really different from what they've done so far, although the "heartagram" (a pentagram with the top two points rounded off to form a heart with the bottom point) will once again make an appearance. The artwork for the CD is still not finished and Valo is very involved in its creation and ideas.

"Dark Light" final track listing:

01. Vampire Heart
02. Rip Out the Wings of a Butterfly
03. Behind the Crimson Door
04. Killing Loneliness
05. Dark Light
06. Drunk on Shadows
07. Under the Rose
08. Play Dead
09. Face of God
10. Night Side of Eden

According to Billboard.com, "Dark Light" was mixed at New York's Electric Lady studios with producer Tim Palmer (DAVID BOWIE, OZZY OSBOURNE). Valo told Finland's Ilta-Sanomat magazine that the group's initial choice of mixer for the new album, Andy Wallace (NIRVANA, KORN, LIMP BIZKIT, DISTURBED) was fired one week into the process because he made H.I.M. sound like "one of those American bands with no personality." "He didn't understand our Scandinavian 'twistedness,'" Ville said.

The follow-up to 2003's "Love Metal", "Dark Light" was recorded at Los Angeles' Paramour studios with Palmer, who also worked on the band's last album. A September 27 release (one day earlier internationally) via Sire Records is expected.

Finnish goth-metallers H.I.M. are set to release their fifth album, "Dark Light", on September 27. The album is the first the band have recorded for their new label, Sire, and is described by frontman Ville Valo as sounding "like a gothed-up BON JOVI." Speaking to the U.K.'s Rock Sound magazine, he said, "Last time, on 'Love Metal', we wanted it to be our BLACK SABBATH album. This time we're still soppy bastards, but there's a bit more experimenting. We wanted it to be like a U2 album with lots of textures. 'Achtung Baby' is one of my favorite albums of all time. So there's a lots of ear candy, but it's pretty '80s in that there are big hooks on the choruses and they're all sing-along."

"Dark Light" was recorded during February and March of this year with producer Tim Palmer (PEARL JAM, OZZY OSBOURNE, U2) at Paramour Studios in Silverlake, California. Previous uses for the location include the filming of parts of "Halloween 2" and, while Ville was recording his backing vocals, a feature-length Playboy film. Ville says the location itself proved to be inspiring, but for entirely different reasons.

"We just wanted to get away from the pressures of everyday life, so you don't have to do the dishes or pay the bills," he said. "We did end up being at [legendary rock hangout] The Rainbow every other night, but the studio itself was in a residential spot, on top of a hill in a big mansion. I was still finishing a lot of the lyrics there and once the sun went down over downtown L.A., it allowed me to reflect. It was very peaceful and it meant we could concentrate on what we did best. So the band sound pretty relaxed on this album. It was really good to get the brothers together again, without families or girls."

Ville explained that the album moniker follows H.I.M.'s tradition of "using contradictions in titles," but also has another, coincidental meaning. "What makes it funny is that my last name means 'light' in Finnish. Then you translate 'dark' straight into Finnish, it means that you're a bit crazy in the head, so I thought, 'Great! It's crazy old me again.' Because it's our fifth album, we're also going to use the Roman numeral 'V', so it's all very autobiographical."

Lyrically, themes still revolve around "girls and boys and the politics of the heart," but Ville revealed that his own love life has influenced him, too. He said, "I've been hanging out with the same girl for awhile, so it's very, very inspiring. I'm like her evil twin. It's good for the head."

Reflecting on H.I.M.'s breakthrough success in the U.K. with 2003's "Love Metal", the singer insisted they're maintaining level heads despite their increasing fame and fortune. "It doesn't change anything," he countered. "We had Number Ones in places like Germany and played our biggest gig there in 2001 in front of 9,000 people. I think the only pressure we have put on ourselves, because it's always hard to make another album and make it exciting again. After struggling for so many years, it's nice to be able to pay for your own beer, but it's important to remember the reason you're doing this is the music and not the endless partying."

HIMin uusin poppivideo Wings Of A Butterfly.

Wings of a Butterfly video kuvattiin Los Angelesissa ja sen ohjasi irlantilaisohjaaja Meiert Avis, joka on työskennellyt mm. U2:n, Avril Lavignen, Jennifer Lopezin ja Bruce Springsteen kanssa.

Pitkästä aikaa sellainen videobiisi bändiltä, jossa on vähän tarttuvuutta. HIMin aikaisemmat videot on ollu aika tylsiä. Kyllähän valo on edelleen hemmetin hyvä laulaja...

Todella tarttuva kappale tämä Wings Of A butterfly, meikäläisen soittolistalla paljon tällä hetkellä. Mahtava biisi, hienot melodiat ja kitarat. :kuola: Hittipotentiaalia paljon tuossa biisissä, MTV:lläkin soi aika tiheään. Soisin HIM:lle jenkkeihin lisää menestystä, siellä myy paljon huonommatkin bändit paljon enemmän. Kyllä jätkät osaa tehdä tuota omaa juttuansa, viides levy tulee ulos ja vieläkin hyviä biisejä tuntuu irtoavan.

Tulikin tästä ketjusta mieleen, että pitää varmaan laittaa tuo H.I.M. ensimmäinen EP pikkuhiljaa myyntiin, kun sen hinnat tuntuu maailmalla olevan aika hurjissa mitoissa.

Rip Out the Wings of a Butterfly on mun korvissa tylsä biisi.

:kakka: :zzzz:

Mitä sitä kiertelemään... :)

ensimmäisen levyn jälkeen metalli-termin on saanu heittää HIMin kohalla romukoppaan

Wings Of A Butterfly oli Suomen virallisen sinkkulistan kärjessä viime viikolla (vko 37).

HIM rules

En kyl tykkää yhtään Wings Of A Butterflyn kitarariffista...

Valo on tehnyt "saman" biisin noin. 50kertaa.
