"This Day in Armwrestling History…
October 7th, 1989 – The Louis Cyr International Armwrestling Championship is held in Napierville, Quebec. It is the biggest money tournament of the year and attracts many of the top pullers of North America. John Brzenk, Dave Patton, Gary Goodridge, Cobra Rhodes, Ray Taglione, Garvin Lewis, Norm Devio, Serge Usereau, Gabe Accardi, George Givens, and Fred Decker -- all stars of the sport -- take part. Taglione, Patton, Rhodes, and Lewis win their respective classes, but 25-year-old John Brzenk is the biggest winner of the day, taking first in the two classes he is eligible to pull, plus the overall. He earns $3,000 for his efforts.
